The Prayer Project handles prayer requests with the understanding that people may share sensitive burdens.
Information collected
- Prayer request title, category, message, urgency, and prayer count
- Email address for prayer notifications
- Report reasons submitted by visitors
- Safety or crisis flags created when a prayer request may contain suicide, self-harm, or threat-related language
- Administrative settings such as daily verse and announcements
Email use
Email addresses are collected so the system can provide prayer-related notifications and support the administration of submitted requests. Emails are not intentionally displayed on the public website.
Current technical note: email addresses are stored in Firestore with the prayer request so the email service can send notifications. The public prayer wall does not render the email address.
Reports and moderation
Ordinary prayer requests may post to the public wall. Reported requests are hidden and moved to the administrative review process. A request that may describe suicide, self-harm, or a threat to someone else can be automatically withheld from the public wall and submitted privately for administrator review.
Crisis-related information
The Prayer Project is not an emergency monitoring service. A crisis flag is created by automated keyword and phrase matching. It is not a clinical assessment, diagnosis, emergency dispatch, or determination that someone is suicidal or dangerous.
If a request is privately submitted after a safety warning, the system may store the prayer request, the private email address supplied with it, the fact that the request was safety-flagged, and limited matched-term labels used to help administrators understand why it was withheld from the public prayer wall.
Crisis-related submissions are intended to be accessible only through the site's protected administrative moderation tools and are not intentionally displayed publicly while they remain flagged. Administrators are instructed to limit access and sharing to people who need the information for Prayer Project safety, moderation, legal, or operational purposes.
Submitting a crisis-flagged prayer request does not contact 988, 911, law enforcement, emergency medical services, a counselor, or another crisis professional. An administrator may not see the request immediately. Anyone needing immediate help should use the Crisis Resources page, call or text 988 in the United States for suicide or mental-health crisis support, or call 911 for immediate physical danger.
Crisis-data retention
The Prayer Project uses a 90-day administrative review target for crisis-flagged requests and associated safety reports. Administrators should remove crisis-related records after that period when they are no longer needed for moderation, safety, abuse prevention, legal compliance, or an active operational issue. The current site does not use an automatic deletion timer, so this review is an administrative responsibility.
Safety notice
The Prayer Project is not an emergency service, counseling service, crisis intervention provider, or substitute for professional help. Prayer support and professional crisis care are not competing choices. If you are in immediate danger, contact emergency services. In the United States, call or text 988 for suicide, mental-health, or emotional-crisis support; call 911 for immediate physical danger.
Data removal
Administrators may remove inappropriate, harmful, spam, reported, or safety-flagged content. Requests for removal can also be handled through the project's administrative contact process when enough information is available to identify the record.
