When Words Are Hard

Prayers to Pray

Sometimes prayer begins with simple words. These prayers are not formulas; they are starting places for honest conversation with God.

You can pray these as written, change the words, or use them to begin your own prayer. God is not impressed by performance; He hears the sincere heart.

Prayer for Anxiety

Father, I feel overwhelmed and afraid. Please quiet my heart and remind me that I am not alone. Help me take the next faithful step and trust You with what I cannot control. Give me peace that is stronger than my fear. Amen.

“Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.” — 1 Peter 5:7

Prayer for Grief

Lord, my heart hurts, and I do not know how to carry this loss. Please be near to me in the pain. Comfort me, strengthen me, and help me remember that You are close to the brokenhearted. Amen.

“The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart.” — Psalm 34:18

Prayer for Faith

God, I believe, but I also struggle. Help my unbelief. Teach me to trust You when I cannot see the whole picture. Keep drawing my heart back to You. Amen.

“Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.” — Mark 9:24

Prayer for Forgiveness

Father, I have sinned and need Your mercy. Forgive me, cleanse me, and help me turn away from what pulls me from You. Teach me also to forgive others as You have forgiven me. Amen.

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins.” — 1 John 1:9

Prayer for Family

Lord, please cover my family with wisdom, patience, protection, and love. Heal what is broken, strengthen what is weak, and help us treat one another with grace. Amen.

“As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.” — Joshua 24:15

Prayer for School or Work

God, help me be faithful in the responsibilities in front of me. Give me focus, humility, discipline, and strength. Let my attitude and effort honor You. Amen.

“And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord.” — Colossians 3:23

Prayer for Someone Else

Father, I lift this person to You. You know what they need more than I do. Please comfort them, guide them, provide for them, and remind them that they are seen and loved. Amen.

“Pray one for another.” — James 5:16

Prayer of Surrender

Lord, I give You what I have been trying to control. Teach me to trust Your timing, Your wisdom, and Your goodness. Let Your will be done in my life. Amen.

“Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.” — Matthew 6:10
